Ontario, CA - Heat waves hits Southern CA

9/25/2015

An early autumn heat wave is weeping over Ontario and Southern California, and isn’t expected to ease up until next week, with Friday and Saturday anticipating the hottest temperatures. During heat waves, risk of heat cramps, dehydration, heat stroke, and heat exhaustion increase dramatically. Even short periods of activity may cause such effects, especially in the young and elderly. It’s important during this time to take care of your health, and the health of those around you.

As with any other weather emergency, make sure your home and family are prepared. Make sure you have water on hand, as well as medications and non-perishable food. Make sure your family is prepared for how to deal with heat-related issues. If you’re not sure how to handle heat-related issues, contact your local health department for more information.

Living in an area where heat waves aren’t uncommon, it’s important to always be prepared. One important step is making sure your home will always stay as cool as possible. One step is making sure you have plenty of fans on hand. Another is making sure your home is well-insulated. LA County has recently changed its roofing guidelines to require roofs to use cool roofing materials. Cool roofs are a great way to make sure your cooling system isn’t overworked, even in the hottest weather.
